Skytel Pager Instructions
Read these instructions. They will get you started and save you from the booklet that came with your pager.
This Document has 3 parts:
Pager Features PIN vs. PAN Accessing Your Account By Phone
Pager Features
You have a pager on Skytel's Skyword Plus w/ Skyreply service. Skyreply allows you to respond to a text message with a canned response that is programmed into your pager.
The pager is nationwide and has guaranteed page delivery.
If the pager reads FULL SERVICE, you will receive all your pages, any stored pages and have the ability to respond to pages.
STORING means you are out of range and will receive pages when you come back to civilization.
BASIC SERVICE is some where in between; you can receive new messages but cannot respond or receive stored messages.
PIN vs. PAN
The PAN (Personal Access Number) is your pager's 800/888/877 number. This is the number people will call to leave you a page.
The PIN is the last 7 digits of your PAN (your pager number minus the 800/888/877). The Pin is used in the pager's email address. The email address is [your pin]@skytel.com.
Confused yet? It's really not that bad. People call the 800/888/877 number for numeric pages. Drop the 800 and add "@skytel.com" for text messaging.
You also have a security code. The code allows you to make changes to your account and check your messages via the phone. Yes, if you can get to a phone, you can access your pages. Skytel will store pages for three days
Do not use your pager to receive all of your emails. You get a certain allotment of text each month. When you exceed that amount it gets really expen$ive. Use text sparingly. If certain people will email your pager regularly, tell them to keep it short and lose both signatures and subjects.
When you access your account you can leave a personal message for your pager number. Use this feature! People calling your pager need to press 1 before they leave their numeric message. Callers need to hear this from you. No one listens to that stupid computer voice.
ACCESSING YOUR ACCOUNT BY PHONE
These are the basics; listen to the prompter for more detailed instructions -
Call your pager number
Press 5
Enter your security code and press #
2 - reviews messages
5 - allows you to change your name and pager greeting. Change the greeting ASAP. In your message, tell callers they need to press 1 before they leave their page.
6 - changes your security code.
9 - is additional options like privacy, delivery options and replay options.
The pager itself has a very simple UI. Please see Kevin Mulligan if you have any specific questions regarding how to use the unit.
